The Bohinj Valley: Paradise on Earth

If Slovenia is the crowning glory of east European exotica, then undoubtedly the cherry on the cake will be Bohinj valley that lies in the north western region of this charming little tiny country. Lake Bohinj is situated at an altitude of 525 meters from the sea level and is surrounded on all sides by this beautiful valley of Bohinj that lies bang in the middle of Julian Alps and Triglav National Park.

The main fame of the Bohinj valley lies in its being Julian Alps’ most noted glacial valley. The most renowned Slovene waterfall, Savica that is celebrated for its fierce beauty, graces the head of the Bohinj valley where the somber face of Komarca overshadows the natural amphitheatre.

Thousand meters higher up towards the rear side lies the Komna plateau, veiled in mystery. Together with the Seven Triglav lakes valley which happens to be a very beautiful Alpine high altitude valley, the Komarca forms the most attractive natural tourist destination in North West Slovenia where you can enjoy the manifold sights and sounds of nature at her virgin best.

However, the Bohinj valley is celebrated for its attraction number one – the lake Bohinj. The beauty of this glacial lake is enhanced by the Vogar, the Prsivec and the Mernik enclosing and surrounding it with their gently rolling wooded slopes and the crisp bright blue sky overhead.

Camping Bohinj

Bohinj is supposed to be the most beautiful valley on earth, surpassing even Kashmir in natural scenic splendor. And it is because of this picture perfect tranquil gorgeousness that Bohinj valley is the number one choice among those who are seeking a camping adventure.

By camping over night, by taking day trips, by walking on the natural wooden trails that run throughout the valley and by undertaking trekking or hiking or climbing or mountaineering tours, you can explore the unsullied beauty of meadows and mountain pastures, verdant green forests and high mountains, historical and cultural monuments and edifices, friendly towns and villages.

Accommodation won't be a problem as there are numerous private rooms, apartments, inns, hotels and restaurants scattered all over Bohinj. If you are thinking of camping in Bohinj, you can even try out kayaking, fly fishing, bathing, swimming as well as diverse winter sports.

Camping Danica

The scenic Bohinj valley impregnates the heart of the Julian Alps like a stretched fjord. Located in its heart, 3 km downstream from Lake Bohinj which is fondly called the pearl of the Bohinj valley, lies another virgin camp site that goes by the name of Danica. There is a main road linking Bohinj with Bled that is 25 km farther.

Danica camping site is situated in this rural belt that stretches from the banks of the river Sava to this main road. It is made up of a flat meadow with intermittent natural woodlands breaking up the flatness and offering nice shades for campers.
